Club project - shop box

Resolutions?

It's been a few weeks since my last post, just before Christmas to be precise.  I tried last week but whatever I did I couldn't upload any photos. First of all, a very happy new year to everyone!

One of my resolutions is to finish UFOs - Un Finished Objects, of which I have quite a few.  The first one is this pot of hydrangeas. I made the flowers a few years ago, but all the leaves were loose in a box, the usual fate of a UFO. The wooden vase is from a gentleman who came to our village summer fair a few years ago and among his wares were a few very nice miniatures.

Apart from trying to find more of my UFOs, I now have all the stuff to make the lamps for in the shop box. This is my first attempt at a lamp shade. It's made from brass wire, soldered and painted white. The idea is to  put a creamy silk fabric on it. Just not sure if it needs another one or two vertical supports...  All five lamps for the shop box will be 3V LEDs with a switch each connected to a battery pack with 2 AAA batteries.

The wall sconces at the back I've had for years and as I didn't like the plastic balls used as lamp shades I decided to take them apart. The one on the left I've antiqued with a 'green gold' paste to get rid of the very brassy look. I like it so the other one will go the same way. They have 12V lights for the dollshouse and I'm planning on a shade in the shape of a shell. I've no idea yet how to make that though. I'll try with paper.  On other blogs it all looks so easy! Maybe they just leave out all the time it takes to experiment?

Tonight is the first pottery class of the new year and who knows I might have something to post about tomorrow!

PS I'm still getting lots of errors even when just typing in this post, hope that's not a sign of blogger having more problems...

  1. Привет!
Замечательный букет гортензий! Я тоже делала гортензии. Забавно! Сейчас ломаю голову, что бы сделать светильники :):):)

    1. Hi Tatiana, thanks for commenting! I love hydrangeas too, also in RL! I'll post on my progress with the lamps later, pottery first though!

  2. I'm glad I'm not the only UFO-er! I can't wait to see what you come up with at pottery class - we were spoilt by your efforts in 2012!

As for the lamp shades, definitely fiddle about a bit, I know that bloggers make things look effortless - I should post a picture of my work table with all its mess! You could try using double sided bondaweb and iron the silk onto the paper, I find it works well, as long as the iron isn't too hot.

    1. I saw the explanation of UFO on someone else's blog, I can't claim it's my idea, I don't remember who it was, sorry :) Had to smile about your computer/blog being UFO, thankfully that won't be for long, I enjoy reading your blog, Blanche!

  4. Dear Idske,

I can't wait to see your lamps ready. And I'm curious what you learn in your pottery class.
It looks very easy to make the little things but many of my items took hours. I didn't know how to finish things or how to start.
Maybe it's a good idea to place the failures in my blog also!

    1. Hi Dorien, I don't call them failures but prototypes, as they all contribute to making the one that makes it into the dollshouse much better! It is nice sometimes, to see how people got to the end result that is usually stunning, beautiful and flawless :))

Not sure what I'm doing at pottery, but I did make another lot of tiles, so maybe some tile painting?

    1. Hi Giac, nice to hear from you. Jonquil gave me a really good tip on how to make the lampshade, so I'm trying that as soon as I've found the bondaweb, For me it's not just UFOs it also not being able to find things even though almost everything is labeled.. :))

  6. Hi idske!

Wow your miniatures are something else. Happy New Year!

I sympathise with the blogging as I've had problems today. It can be so challenging. I cant put the comments box on mine but I just manage in other ways!

UFO's yes well, us yarnies ie knitters, yarn spinners use the same expression and some of us have UFO's in the tens and before they are a yarn!!!!

    Groetjes, Alexandra.
